2010/12/7 ~ 歌劇魅影陰魂不散 Haunted by Phantom of the Opera Haunting

年初時,大小貝貝在阿姨家聽見【歌劇魅影】,
很喜歡裡面的幾首主題音樂~
媽咪多年前(年輕時)曾經去歌劇院看過【歌劇魅影】音樂劇的演出,
但現在已經想不起實際的劇情~

Justin and Audrey heard music from "Phantom of the Opera" at Aunty K's at the beginning of the year,
and really liked several of the theme songs~
Mummy had once (in her youth) seen the musical at the Opera House,
but can no longer recall the actual storyline~

既然這是很好的音樂劇教育機會,
前陣子媽咪就買了【歌劇魅影】的電影版和 CD 版,
大小貝貝看得非常入迷~
從此開啟了我們家魅影陰魂不散的日子~

Since it's an excellent opportunity to teach Justin and Audrey about musicals,
I bought a copy of the "Phantom of the Opera" movie DVD and soundtrack CD,
and they absolutely loved them~
So starts the haunting of the Phantom in our house~

很多幼兒家長應該聽過主題式、情境融入式、多元智能教學等等字眼,
到底這是什麼呢?
其實就是一種利用兒童本身的好奇心主導學習的概念~
大家都知道,我們以前唸書時興致缺缺,
但現在碰到編織書、拼布書,
就算是日文、英文也會拼了老命把它摸懂~

Many parents of young children have probably heard the words "thematic teaching", "immersion learning", "multiple intelligence" etc being dropped around.
So what are these things?
Actually they are all about using children's natural curiosity to guide their learning.
As we all know, we used to fall asleep whenever we had to read a textbook,
but when we come to knitting books or quilting books nowadays,
we would stay up all night to figure them out if necessary,
even if they are in Japanese or English!

最適合兒童的學習模式也是一樣的~
藉由一個兒童有興趣的主題,
讓兒童自己主導他們想要學習的方向與內容,
家長會很驚訝兒童學到的東西竟然有這麼廣、這麼深喔!~
在此藉由在我們家徘徊中的【歌劇魅影】介紹主題式教學的概念唷~
媽咪將大小貝貝學到的多元智能內容用綠字標出~

The same applies to learning models most suitable to children.
Through a theme or topic that a child is interested in,
we allow the child to take control over the direction and contents of their learning.
Parents would then be amazed at how broadly and how deeply the child is learning!
Through the theme of "Phantom of the Opera" that is currently haunting our house,
Mummy will provide an overview of the concept of "thematic learning" here.
I'll also mark out the "multiple intelligence" concepts acquired by Justin and Audrey in green writing.




首先當然是爸比帶頭,
在小貝貝幼稚園的萬聖節走秀中扮演歌劇魅影~
(學校參與、親子參與、手作)

First of all, Daddy starts the trend by playing the Phantom at Audrey's kindie Halloween catwalk~
(School participation, parent-child participation, handicraft)



於是大貝貝也要自己剪個面具當魅影~
最近我們家所有的廢紙都被大小貝貝剪成一個又一個的面具,
爸比媽咪受不了,
已經禁止大貝貝繼續浪費紙剪面具!~
現在大貝貝要求媽咪幫他做一件黑色披風~
(手作、角色扮演、媽咪萬能)

It goes without saying that Justin must also make his own mask as a Phantom~
All recycling paper in our house has now been cut into one mask after another by Justin,
so Mummy and Daddy have banned him from continuing to waste more paper!
Now Justin wants Mummy to make him a black Phantom cape~
(Handicraft, role-playing, Mummy is omnipotent!)



大貝貝自己打扮還不夠,
當然也不能放過手無縛雞之力的迷你貝~

Not content with turning himself into the Phantom,
Justin turns his attention to poor little Benji....

再來試試另一種造型,
這是魅影在化妝舞會中的打扮喔!~

連每天陪大貝貝睡覺的小熊都......

甚至白雪公主....... !!~!

小貝貝則是愛上了(帶面具時挺)英俊的男主角,
要爸比幫她印了劇照出來~
而且晚上還夢見 phantom 教她怎麼用剪刀,
還跟她說書要先用肥皂擦過才能念,
還有.... phantom 說想要吃南瓜!~
(ㄟ.... 這個不知道學到什麼?追星嗎?)

Audrey on the other hand has fallen in love with the handsome (when masked) leading man,
and insisted that Daddy print out some movie photos for her.
She even dreamed that Phantom was teaching her how to use scissors,
telling her that she must wipe a book cover with soap before reading it,
and..... that Phantom wants to eat some pumpkin!
(Umm..... what did she learn here? How to be a fan?)

媽咪問他們:歌劇魅影的臉受傷了,大家都不理他,還用石頭丟他耶!
大小貝貝都說:如果我們碰到他,一定要當他的好朋友,
因為他也不是故意臉要變成這樣啊!~

Mummy asked: Everyone ignored the Phantom because he has hurt his face, and they even throw rocks at him!
Both Justin and Audrey replied: If we see him, we'll be his friends!
Because it wasn't his fault that his face is like that!

大小貝貝已經把電影看了幾十次,
附加在車上也不停的聽,
所以已經把所有的曲目和台詞都幾乎背起來了~

最近大小貝貝一起玩玩具時,
還常常會像音樂劇的台詞一樣,
所有的話都用唱的!~
小貝貝某天坐在馬桶上時,
忽然開始自己編歌:
「My love is gone, my heart is broken,
Help me to open my heart!」
原來音樂劇看多了就可以自己編流行歌曲了!~

Justin and Audrey have watched the movie DVD many many times,
and continue to listen to the CD whenever we travel by car,
so they've now almost completely memorised all the songs and even dialogues!

When they play with toys together,
they often also SING their conversations as if they were in a musical themselves!
One morning as Audrey sat on the loo,
she suddenly started to make up her own song:
"My love is gone, my heart is broken,
Help me to open my heart!"
See, you can write your own pop songs once you watch enough of a musical!

上圖是大貝貝想把魅影的圖畫以 3000元賣給小貝貝,
而且還在畫底提供了連絡資料~

The above photo shows a drawing of the Phantom by Justin,
who is trying to sell the drawing to Audrey for the exorbitant sum of $3000!
He has even provided his contact details at the bottom of the page!

魅影在某段音樂裡描述自己是個醜陋的 gargoyle,
也就是歌德式建築上排水功能的醜陋裝飾藝術,
整段音樂裡,大小貝貝這個字聽的特別清楚,
跑來問媽咪 gargoyle 到底是什麼~
後來媽咪剛好看見有位著名兒童插畫家就畫了 gargoyle 主題的書,
於是買回來親子共讀~

Phantom refers to himself as a "loathsome gargoyle" in a section of the music,
the ugly monster that decorates Goethe-style buildings and let water off the roof~
For some reason Justin and Audrey heard the word "gargoyle" particularly clearly,
and asked Mummy what it meant~
I happened to notice that a famous children's book illustrator has drawn a book on this subject,
so I bought it to read it to them~

魅影寫了很多封信給歌劇院裡的老闆、女高音等等,
CD 盒裡的劇照有魅影的專屬信封~

The Phantom wrote many notes to the managers and soprano of the opera house,
and the pamphlet in the CD box shows the Phantom's exclusive envelope~

大貝貝自然也要依樣畫葫蘆自己做一個~

Justin must naturally make his own~

而且還自己依照印象中的歌詞內容,
寫了一封恐嚇信給女高音~
大貝貝還記得這是 1919 年發生的故事喔,
所以信尾的日期自己簽了 「1919ㄋㄧㄢˊ」~
他們也學到那個時代的法國人就是要穿這樣的衣服~

He even wrote his own threatening note to the soprano,
based on his recollection of the song lyrics~
Justin actually remembers that the story took place in 1919,
so he dated the note "1919 Year"~
They also learned that French people during that period wear this kind of clothing~

這是前幾天 Coco 送媽咪的筆記本~

This is the notebook given to Mummy by her friend Coco a few days ago~

已經被大貝貝徵收去當 phantom 練習本~
首先畫了左頁的魅影和女主角 Christine,
經爸比提醒外國人通常臉比較修長後,
大貝貝又畫了右頁的版本~
不過他個人(小貝貝也同意)表示胖胖臉的 phantom 比較可愛,
他們比較喜歡~

And it has already been appropriated by Justin as his phantom practice book~
Initially he drew the phantom and Christine on the left page;
after Daddy reminded him that westerners usually have longer, slimmer faces, 
Justin did the version on the right page~
But he personally thinks (and Audrey agrees) that the phantom with the rounder face is cuter~

和阿公阿媽吃早餐時,
媽咪看大貝貝不停的畫著一個又一個的圈圈,
是在畫葡萄串嗎?
啊,原來是歌劇院裡的大吊燈!~

While having breakfast with Grandpa and Grandma,
Mummy noticed Justin drawing one circle after another;
is he drawing grapes?
Ah, they turn out to be the big chandelier hanging in the opera house!

大貝貝不停的畫,
媽咪說:你可以用一點顏色嗎?
於是大貝貝加了一點藍色、紅色,
很興奮的說:跟魅影打鬥的子爵現在變成 3D 了!~

Justin draws and draws,
and Mummy remarked: Can't you use a bit of colour?!
So Justin added a bit of red, a bit of blue,
and exclaimed in excitement: The Vicomte is now in 3D!

媽咪很久以前買了一本【歌劇魅影】的鋼琴譜,
偶而會拿出來彈彈,
(年代久遠,所以已經破舊不堪了)
大貝貝聽到後說他也要學鋼琴的歌劇魅影!~
大貝貝沒學過鋼琴,
但媽咪稍微指導他魅影主題曲的前幾句,
大貝貝竟然還很有耐性的自己一直練、反覆練,
現在已經可以單指彈第一頁囉~

A long long time ago Mummy once purchased sheet music for the musical,
and would occasionally take it out to play on the piano~
(This book has seriously deteriorated in its old age...)
Justin now says that he wants to learn how to play "Phantom of the Opera" on the piano.
Justin has never had piano lessons,
but after Mummy shows him the first few phrases,
he patiently practises and practises them on the piano by himself,
and now he can already play the first page on one finger!

在車上聽 CD 聽久了,
看大小貝貝對每首曲目甚至背景音樂都很熟悉,
媽咪問:你們有沒有發現,每次某一段音樂出現時,固定有某個角色會出現呢?
這就是音樂中的主題段落喔!~
大小貝貝很開心的一邊聽、一邊指出每個角色的主題音樂是什麼!~

Justin and Audrey have listened to the CD so many times in the car,
that they are already extremely familiar with all the songs and even the background music.
Mummy asks: Do you notice that every time a certain section of the music appears,
a certain character would also appear?
That's what called a "motif" in music.
So the kids very happily tried to pick out the motifs to every character in the music.

我們還有一本【歌劇魅影】兒童版的故事書,
內容有點難度,
但大貝貝會帶去學校英文課慢慢讀~

其實【歌劇魅影】的續集今年已經在英國開演囉,
是音樂劇史上第一次有續集(果然陰魂不散啊~),
大小貝貝很期待呢~
不過要來台灣還要很久吧~

We also have a copy of the "Phantom of the Opera" novel in children's version.
It's still a bit hard for even Justin,
but he takes it to his English class at school to read it slowly by himself~

Actually the musical sequel to "Phantom of the Opera" is already showing in England this year -
the first time in the history of musicals that there is a sequel!
(The phantom indeed haunts us all!)
Justin and Audrey are really looking forward to seeing it,
but it'll probably be years before the cast comes to Taiwan.

魅影效應還持續發酵中,
不知道大小貝貝還會怎麼玩呢?

The Phantom is still hanging around;
we wonder how else Justin and Audrey will play with this topic?

順便說,【歌劇魅影】的電影 DVD 和 CD 在博客來都買的到,
超乎想像的便宜呢,
CD 有兩種版本:一種是主要曲目,另一種是所有曲目(含所有片間曲),
我們買的是完整曲目的~
建議大家要先看過電影再聽 CD 會比較了解曲目與劇情的連結性喔!~
(而且電影裡的 phantom 真的粉帥啦~~

By the way, the movie DVD and CD to "Phantom of the Opera" can be purchased from Books.com,
so cheaply that I was surprised!
There are two versions of the CD: one with the main songs, the other with ALL the songs.
We bought the complete version.
I would suggest that you watch the movie first before listening to the CD,
so that you understand the connection between the songs and the storyline~
(And.... the phantom in the movie IS indeed very good looking!)
